New community event —Stuff the Christmas Truck — to give local children Christmas presents
For the first time in Good Samaritan's Angel Program history, the organization will host a special gift drop-off celebration for its participants.
The Angel Program collects toys and clothing for Pulaski County children whose parents are unable to help them at work.
On Dec. 7, Good Samaritan hopes to fill a whole truck filled with Christmas presents for children in need.
The program provides gifts for children of all ages from newborns to teenagers, but the children must come from families who either qualify for public assistance or fall within income guidelines.
Dawn O'Neal, development coordinator at Good Samaritan, said that the program hopes to help 500 local children this year.
"Our main goal for the Angel Program this year is to provide 500 children in need, not only with Christmas gifts, but new, warm clothing," O Neal said. "There are a lot of kids in need every year and we strive as an organization, along with the support of the community, to provide for as many children as possible, not only during the holiday season, but throughout the year."
The "Stuff the Christmas Truck" event is just one of the ways to participate in the Angel Program. Participants can donate toys and clothes to Good Samaritan. The program also offers gift request cards that specify the age and gender of a child for those who want to "adopt an Angel."
A complete package to adopt an Angel consists of: one gift valued at $25, two clothing items, and two gifts valued at $10-$15. Good Samaritan requests that gifts not be wrapped.
"Stuff the Christmas Truck" will take place Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Good Samaritan, in front of the food pantry at 1811 Route 66. Spirit FM will do a live remote at the even and refreshments will be provided by Waynesville United Methodist Church.
For those unable to attend but would still like to participate, donated clothing, toys and other items can be dropped off at the Good Samaritan Thrift Store, while monetary donations can be given to Genesis House
For the second year in a row, parents utilizing the program will get to enjoy a new Angel Store location at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church.
