Pyrah was a member of the U.S. Track and Field team in 1996 and 2000. He placed tenth in the world in the 2000 games in Sydney, Australia. Jason ran over 30 sub-four-minute miles in his professional running career and has been inducted into the Willard High School, Brigham Young University and most recently, the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame. Jason talked to the students about making good choices and the consequences of bad choices. Pyrah talked about some of his experiences as a professional athlete and an athletic trainer. He has seen first-hand the dangers of steroids and other performance enhancing drugs. Pyrah also educated the students about substances that are commonly abused today, such as energy drinks and chewing tobacco. Pyrahtold the students that it is possible to accomplish your dreams with hard work and dedication.
“It's important students understand that just because substances are legal or readily available does not mean that they are not addictive and potentially harmful,” Lori Bogle, Crocker Elementary Counselor and Drug-Free Coordinator, said.”If we can save even a few students from making the wrong choices, it is worth our efforts.”
