  • WAYNESVILLE – After a successful first event, Waynesville High School announced it will host the the second annual Route 66 Shootout Pulaski County in late December.
The Waynesville R-VI School District and the Pulaski County Tourism Bureau have partnered to produce the event, which will feature 19 teams – including squads from Chicago, St. Louis and Kansas – and 13 overall games on Dec. 20-21.
"If you like high school basketball, then you will love this shootout," Josh Scott, Waynesville athletic director, said. "Fans who came last year saw more slam dunks, fast breaks and unique drives than they would during regular-season games, and this year will be even more exciting with more games and more teams competing."
On Friday, Dec. 20, games will begin at 1 p.m. with the final game of the evening tipping off at 8:30 p.m. Games begin at 11 a.m. on Dec. 21 and continue through an 8 p.m. contest.
"Some of the best teams in Missouri have been paired to bring unbeatable competition," Scott says. "These teams are accustomed to making playoffs and want the extra play time to hone their skills."
College recruiters will find places in the stands to study the state's top recruits.
The cost for admission to each day of the shootout is $7 for adults and $5 for students. Athletic passes will not be accepted for this special event. Game programs will be available for $2 each, and will include team information – rosters, records, and additional information.
Scott offered thanks to the Pulaski County Tourism Bureau and local businesses for helping sponsor the event in its first two years.
