December 6, 1865

Ratification of 13th Amendment

Slavery was part of the American way before the United States became a nation. Many compromises had been offered, but none satisfied for long. Finally, after a war and the loss of more than 625,000 people, slavery was abolished once and for all with the passage of the 13th Amendment which was ratified on December 6, 1865.
