Rolla and Sondershausen, Germany, though a world apart globally speaking, were a little closer this past weekend.
A traditional German Christmas market, called a Christkindl Markt, was held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. under tents at the Public House Brewing Co. parking lot.
Sondershausen will have something similar, though much larger, just before Christmas, according to the website, www.weihnachtsmarkt-deutschland.de/weihnachtsmarkt-sondershausen.html.
Sondershausen’s Christmas market will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 19-21 and noon to 6 p.m. Dec. 22, according to that German website.
The Rolla German Christmas market, sponsored by the Rolla Area Sister City Association, included tables of goods from vendors and demonstrators under the tents, as well as entertainment throughout the afternoon.
A St. Nikolaus skit opened at 12:15 p.m., followed by the World’s Finest Rolla German Band, Acoustic Souls and the Ozark Spirit Cloggers.
Wrapping up the entertainment schedule were the Community Children’s Choir, Jazz Choir and Men of Song, all part of the Rolla Choral Arts Society.
