The Way I See It
My name is Dennis Miller and I am a lifelong resident of Kirksville, MO. I have been totally blind since birth and a sports fanatic just as long. I like all sports but love baseball and am a proud lifelong member of Cardinal Nation. It is my honor to be given the opportunity to write a blog for the Kirksville Daily Express and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.

The Kirksville High School wrestling team is preparing to head to Harrisonville later today for the Harrisonville tournament which starts late this afternoon and runs through tomorrow.  This is always one of the better tournaments in the state and KHS has always done well there so I look for several Tigers to bring home first place finishes.  The Tigers are off to another great start and will have lots of momentum heading into 2014.

The KHS boys basketball team is set to play Fulton at home tonight before they and the Lady Tigers head to Macon for gamestomorrow afternoon.  Both teams have played well with the girls still finding their way with five new starters and the boys coming off a huge win over Mexico on Tuesday.  Both teams have very little time off after tomorrow’s games in Macon as they will be playing in a tournament in Trenton over the holiday break.

The Truman State Bulldogs men’s basketball team will try to remain undefeated as they head to Quincy for games tomorrowafternoon and Sunday afternoon.  The Quincy tournament always brings in some of the better teams in the Midwest so this will be a big test for the Bulldogs.  Following Sunday’s game they will be off until January 3 when they get back into GLVC play.

The Truman State women’s basketball team suffered a tough loss Wednesday night in double overtime against Pittsburg State to wrap up the 2013 portion of their season.  Neither Truman or Pittsburg State shot all that well from the field but Truman hung tough against a good team in a thrilling game.  They too will next see action on January 3.

Of course everything I have written about so far is weather pending.  Everything is still on for the moment but I’m sure that as soon as I submit this blog everything will immediately be canceled.

The Missouri Tigers men’s basketball team have their annual “Braggin Rights” game with Illinois tomorrow in St. Louis.  This rivalry has produced many thrilling games over the years but Illinois looks to be down a little this year so I’m not sure what to expect.  Mizzou didn’t play all that well in their last game against Western Michigan but did play well enough to win and remain undefeated for the season.  The Tigers should be able to win tomorrow afternoon’s game but anything can happen when these two teams meet.

The Kansas City Chiefs play their final home game of the regular season on Sunday as they play the Indianapolis Colts.  The Colts have performed so far below expectations this year that it’s unbelievable.  They did get things back on track somewhat tlast week and are in the playoffs having clinched a spot a couple of weeks ago by winning the worst division in the NFL so the Chiefs cannot take them lightly.  The Chiefs are in the playoffs as well but are still playing for the best possible placement so they need to get a big win at home on Sunday because next week’s game at San Diego will not be easy.  The Chiefs offense has been on fire the last two weeks so hopefully that trend can continue and the defense can get back to playing the way it is capable of playing.

The St. Louis Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers also meet this weekend in a pretty meaningless game.  The Rams could finish the season at 8 and 8 if they can win their last two games but this team is so unpredictable there is no way to predict what they will do.

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!  As I stated earlier this week this will be the last blog until after Christmas.  The next blog won’t be until December 27 which will be the Friday blog where we will get caught up on everything and get ready for the weekend.  Thanks as always for checking out this and all the other blogs on this site and please follow me on Twitter at KDEBlog.

Merry Christmas!
