Law enforcement officers from all over the county invaded Walmart in St. Robert Saturday morning to participate in a special holiday tradition called “Shop With a Cop.”
This year, the program raised enough funds to give 120 children the opportunity to go on a $100 shopping spree with a local police officer.
The participating children are nominated by schools, churches, the Department of Family Services and police officers. Children have to be old enough to ride the bus to participate in the program and attend a school in Pulaski County. The organization also ensures that the participating families are not using other organizations for Christmas presents.
Pulaski County Shop with a Cop received more than 300 nominations this year.
The children can buy age-appropriate items at Walmart for whomever they want.
“Usually, the kids buy gifts for their mom, dad, brothers, sisters, and grandparents before they think about getting a gift for themselves,” she said.
This year, police officers from the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department, Waynesville Police Department, St. Robert Police Department, Crocker Police Department, the Fort Leonard Wood Department of Emergency Services and the Military Police Corps participated in the program.
