  • Two men were taken into federal custody while attempting to enter Fort Leonard Wood's West Gate in connection with threats to rob a Pulaski County bank, Dixon City Marshal Mike Plummer confirmed.
The ordeal started in Dixon Monday morning and ended at Fort Leonard Wood Monday at about 3 p.m.
Plummer said it is not yet known what the men will be charged with.
Plummer said his office received a phone call Monday morning, which set the wheels in motion for an investigation to take place.
"We received word this morning from a third party that a man said he was considering robbing a bank," Plummer said. "Our banks were on lockdown as a precautionary measure. Average people don't say things like that."
Plummer said all of the county was "on alert" once Dixon received the phone call.
He said locating the man who had allegedly made the threats was a "county-wide investigation" since there has been "suspicious activity" in recent days at some banks in the Waynesville/St. Robert area. Due to this past "suspicious activity," the entire county was "on alert," and thoroughly investigating the threat.
The two Dixon banks that went on lockdown are Mid-America Bank and Community Bank of Dixon.
More information will be released as it becomes available.
