It’s hard to know exactly where to start so we’ll take things in order as they are set to occur this weekend.

The Missouri Tigers football team has been in Dallas all week preparing for tonight’s Cotton Bowl matchup with the Oklahoma State Cowboys.  Of course Mizzou and OSU have played each other many times over the years but this will be the first meeting between the former Big 8 and Big 12 rivals in a couple of years.  Both teams come into the game having lost important games on December 7, the last time either one of them played.  Of course the Tigers lost in the SEC championship game to Auburn while the Cowboys lost to their bitter rival the Oklahoma Sooners in a game they did not expect to lose.  Both teams had their defenses exposed so this game looks to be an interesting one on paper.  Most people give Mizzou a slight edge but I’m not so sure.  I can see this game going either way but if the Tigers defense can get back to playing the way they did most of the year then I would have to give them the edge.  I think this could be another one of those bowl games that is very close and I for one am looking forward to it.

The Truman State Bulldogs men’s and women’s basketball teams are both on the road for games today and tomorrow.  They play Lewis College today in Great Lakes Valley Conference games and then play Wisconsin Parkside tomorrow.  Both Bulldogs teams had a good start to the season with the women losing a couple of very close games against very good teams while the men have just lost once thus far.

The Missouri Tigers men’s basketball team is in action tomorrow afternoon as they play Long Beach State at Mizzou Arena.  The Tigers have also had a good start to the season losing only once to Illinois in a very close game back on December 21.  The Tigers rebounded nicely from that with a come from behind victory on the road at North Carolina State last Saturday night.

The Kansas City Chiefs are in Indianapolis to play the Colts in the first round of the NFL playoffs tomorrow afternoon.  The Chiefs and Colts both come into tomorrow afternoon’s game with an 11 and 5 record but the Chiefs have lost their last two games while the Colts are riding a winning streak into tomorrow’s game including a victory over the Chiefs at Arrowhead two weeks ago.  I don’t even know what to think about this game.  The Colts started off the season impressively including beating the Denver Broncos before going through a stretch of games where they looked totally lost but recovered nicely the last three or four weeks of the season.  The Chiefs started off the season 9 and 0 before going 2 and 5 the rest of the way including losing to the Broncos twice and the Colts.  The Chiefs offense has turned things around the last several weeks while their defense has faltered in a major way.  The only chance I see of them winning this game is for both the offense and defense to be at their best.  I’m really not sure that is going to happen and will not be at all surprised if the Chiefs lose tomorrow’s game.

The other Wild Card matchup tomorrow is between the resurgent Philadelphia Eagles and the New Orleans Saints in what should be a very good game.  The Eagles are red hot right now while the Saints have tailed off slightly so it makes for a very compelling contest in my mind.

Sunday finds the San Diego Chargers who beat the Chiefs last Sunday to make it to the playoffs at Cincinnati to play the Bengals.  The Bengals have very quietly put together a nice season and could quite possibly win this game.  The Chargers are a team of two quarterbacks both named Phillip Rivers.  As Rivers goes the Chargers go so it depends on which Phillip Rivers shows up on Sunday.

The final Wild Card game of the weekend features a rematch from the opening weekend of the season as the San Francisco 49ers travel to Green Bay to play the Packers.  Both teams have had interesting season with the 49ers struggling at various times and the Packers being without their starting quarterback for much of the year.  Weather could play an important factor in both of Sunday’s games but could specially impact this game where it is expected to be brutally cold and snowy in Green Bay.  The Packers should be more accustomed to playing in those types of conditions than the 49ers are so I think this game is pretty evenly matched but I have to give the edge to the Packers right now simply based on the fact that the game is at home and they are relatively injury free at the moment.  It could certainly go the other way though.

We’ll be back on Monday with another blog as we endeavor to get back into a normal schedule.  Thanks as always for checking out this and all the other blogs on this site.  Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter at KDEBlog.

Have a wonderful weekend!
