  • Cardinals legend to speak during “Hail to Heroes-Serving Country, Serving Others”

  • The Armed Services YMCA of Missouri will host the 3rd annual Hail to Heroes event on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the ASYMCA at 403 School St., Waynesville, MO. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and includes an awards ceremony and features keynote speaker Al Hrabosky, St. Louis Cardinals' broadcaster and former pitcher.
    The following nominees have been selected by their commanders for the ASYMCA Hero of the Year Award for 2013.
    • 1st Eng BDE: SSG Timothy Saunders- 169th EN BN
    • 3rd Chemical BDE: SGT Patrick Michael Godfrey- 58th Trans BN
    • 4th MEB: SPC Richard L. Judd
    • 14th MP BDE: SSG Johnny York- 795th MP BN
    • 43rd AG: SSG David J. Mitchell
    • USA MEDDAC: SGT Travis Houskeeper
    • Air Force: SSgt. Toni L. Corbett
    • Marines: GySgt Billeetae D. Johnson
    • Navy: EO1 (SCW) Brian N. Blas
    Their selection was based on the following criteria:
    • Active duty military
    • Stationed at FLW
    • E6 or below
    • May be an individual soldier or family
    • Illustrates desire and passion for volunteerism (through church, military, organizations), demonstrates a commitment to the Fort Leonard Wood community (St. Robert, FLW, Waynesville and surrounding areas) and adheres to the core values of the Armed Services YMCA – caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
    At the event, each nominee will be introduced and awarded a recognition plaque. In addition, each commander will receive a 2013 tab for inclusion on their perpetual plaque. The ASYMCA will announce their overall winner of the Armed Services YMCA Hero of the Year award for 2013 during the evening.
    "We're very excited to have Al Hrabosky (The Mad Hungarian) join our celebration," said Linda Bright, Executive Director for the ASYMCA of Missouri. "He will be sharing the achievement, teamwork, and leadership lessons as they relate to professional baseball."
    Tickets to the dinner are $25.00 and include a buffet dinner and meet and greet with Mr. Hrabosky.
