  • Missing 4-year-old found in New Mexico

  • A 4-year-old Phelps County girl reported missing on Wednesday has been found safe in New Mexico, according to the Phelps County Sheriff's Office.
    Phelps County Sheriff's officials reported Thursday afternoon that the girl, 4-year-old Cassandra Robertson, was found at a residence in Las Cruces, New Mexico at about 3:45 p.m.
    Earlier on Thursday, the sheriff's office received information regarding Cassandra's whereabouts, and the las Cruces Police Department was called in to investigate.
    When police arrived, they found Cassandra and her mother, Nikie Robertson, at the residence.
    Robertson, 39, who according to earlier reports was suspected of taking Cassandra from a residence at the 11800 block of State Highway V near Rolla on Monday, was taken into custody on a Phelps County warrant for Parental Kidnapping.
    Cassandra was placed in protective custody.
    An endangered person advisory, which has since been canceled. was issued on Wednesday for the 4-year-old.
    "Our focus is to find the child and make sure she gets what she needs," Phelps County Sheriff Rick Lisenbe said Thursday afternoon prior to locating Cassandra. "I think the most important thing for us is to find her and make sure she's all right."
    According to Cassandra's father, the youngster has an eye infection that requires medication. It was also reported that Nikie Robertson has a history of suicidal tendencies and substance abuse.
