  • The City of St. Robert recognized a firefighter who dedicates time and enthusiasm toward a youth program.
Gary Zalatan, St. Robert firefighter, received a letter of appreciation from the city of St. Robert at Monday's Board of Alderman meeting, for the countless hours he spent coordinating the fire department's Cadet Program.
The Cadet Program teaches 14-18 year-old men and women how to become firefighters, but also encourages the teenagers how to be good citizens.
“Our goal is to get young men and women to become firefighters and to learn responsibilities and become promising citizens of the community and to learn values —traditional values to work smarter and harder.”
Fire Chief Shay Mason presented the letter of appreciation at the meeting.
“It takes a lot to get this program together,” she said. “He has put in a lot of hours to do this for this program.
