Waynesville picks up their first win of the season at the Ash Grove tournament versus Crane

ASH GROVE, Mo. — Monday in Ash Grove at the Ash Grove Gear Up Tournament the Waynesville Tigers (1-5) picked up their first win of the baseball season by defeating Crane 10-3, but then they dropped their second game of the tourney to host Ash Grove 8-1.

In the game versus Crane, Trey Simpson pitched the distance for the win. He gave up nine hits, earned only two of the runs and struck out seven.

Trey also helped himself out on the offensive side, leading the teams in hits with three. He had one RBI and stole two bases as well.

As a team, the Tigers swiped nine bags while only being caught once.

Waynesville hit for a collective .344, had a .447 on-base percentage and posted a .500 slugging percentage.

Offense was harder to come by in the second game.

Ash Grove shut down the Tigers 8-1 and coach Scott Turner said the Pirate's pitcher looked untouchable at times.

“Their pitcher did a good job of jamming us and he kept us guessing,” Turner said.
Trey Simpson came up with two knocks in that game, one of them a double, and drove in Waynesville's only run.

The Tigers' next game is on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
