  • RICHLAND — Waynesville tennis traveled to Richland on Tuesday to take on the Lions and the boys came out swinging.
The Tigers ran over the Lions 7-2 with sophomore Robert Osborn and junior Kyle Roberts blowing past their singles opponents 8-1 and 8-0 respectively.
Roberts had another big win when he teamed up with senior Nels Lund and quickly defeated their opponents 8-1.
Logan Mathis of Richland had a great match against Waynesville's senior number two Hunter Sadler.
The dual hit deuce almost every game throughout the match.
“Each point was well fought,” Waynesville coach Kayla Wilson said. “Richland sneaked past with a very strong net game.”
Nels Lund's game wasn't as easy as the others, as it came down to a battle of consistency according to Wilson.
“It was one of the longest matchs of the night,” Wilson said. “It tested the stamina, consistency and the mind of both players.”
Nels fell to a 6-2 deficit early, but pulled through to take the 9-7 win.
“Each rally just kept going and going,” his coach said. “Nels kept control throughout though, allowing his opponent to make the most errors.”
Doubles partners junior David Lund and sophomore Brian Fields played in a similar match.
They fell behind 6-1 to come back to win 9-7.
Waynesville is now 3-2 on the season.
The Tigers will be off for the rest of the week. Their next match will be on Monday in Jefferson City against Helias.
