  • Missouri schools could get state money for training on how to respond to shooting incidents.
A provision added to Missouri's proposed budget by Sen. Kurt Schaefer would provide $750,000 for what he describes as "school safety and active shooter response training."
The grants would be administered by the Missouri School Boards' Association.
Schaefer is a Republican from Columbia who is chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. The panel agreed Monday to add the money to the budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1.
The state's roughly $26 billion budget still must be considered by the full Senate. The House passed a different version last month. A final budget plan must be negotiated and sent to Gov. Jay Nixon by May 9.
