Dixon slaughters Osage 10-2 in the tournaments' championship game

OSAGE BEACH — For the fifth time in as many years Dixon (6-2) is the champion of the Osage Wood Bat Tournament.

Heading into the final game against Osage the Bulldogs took down Versailles 6-4 and Richland 10-2.

The Indians proved to be an easy final for Dixon with the Bulldogs taking care of them 10-2 in six innings.

Junior Hunter McCoy picked up the complete game win.

“He got better as the day went on,” Dixon coach Alex Shelton said. “His last two innings of work were six up and six down.”

McCoy also led the team in RBI with three, to help his own cause.

Junior Hunter Barnett was a spark plug for the Bulldogs' offense, going 4-4 with a double, three singles, four runs and four stolen bases.

Andrew Meier, a sophomore, also had a multi hit game with a pair of RBI.

“It was a very good weekend,” Shelton said. “I am very proud of our effort and am especially proud of the total team effort that went into this tournament championship. We are getting contributions from a lot of guys right now, which is excellent to have.”

Some guys, Shelton continued, are helping on defense, others at the plate and even some are chipping in with their work on the base paths.

“When you put all of these things together it makes for a tough team,” Shelton said.
