A Dixon man has been accused of headbutting and threatening his 1-year-old daughter, according to court documents.
Kevin R. Yazzie, of Dixon, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and child abuse, both class C felonies, for an incident that occurred April 25.
Dixon Police were called to a home on the 100 block of Locust Street at around 2 a.m. on April 25 when neighbors reported cursing and screaming.
Court documents state that Dixon Police saw Yazzie swaying the 1-year-old back and forth while his 9-year-old daughter was trying to grab the baby from him when they arrived on scene. Police said both children were crying and the 1-year-old had bruising on her forehead and a bloody nose.
Yazzie then told police the 1-year-old sustained bruising from when he was getting ready to feed the child and she fell on the carpet, according to police documents.
He also told a Department of Family Services (DFS) worker, who was assisting the investigation, that he left the kids at home alone while he went to Casey's General Store and the 1-year-old sustained bruises while she was “roughhousing” with her older sister.
Yazzie changed his story again when both police and the DFS worker were present and he said the 1-year-old sustained a bruise when he was giving her a cookie.
The 9-year-old told police that she woke up to her father screaming at the 1-year-old asking her “what arm she wants cut off first” and then witnessed Yazzie headbutt the 1-year-old, according to police documents.
Yazzie then agreed to take a blood alcohol test and blew a .200.
Yazzie is currently in the Pulaski County Jail with a $50,000 bond. He is set to appear in court May 6. If convicted, he could face 14 years in prison.
