  • MACKS CREEK - Macks Creek welcomed the Crocker Lions to town on Thursday night and were defeated by the score of 15-3 in five innings.
Crocker plated three runs in the top of the first and never looked back. Ty Helms, Blake Neuman, and Logan Wilson all singled to load the bases. Garrett Posten then singled to left where the ball slipped through the fielder's legs, celaring the bases for a 3-0 lead.
The second saw the Lions plate four more runs. With two outs, Mason Boorom singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A Ty Helms' ground ball to third was misplayed, allowing Helms to first and Boorom to third. Neuman followed with his second hit of the night, a triple, to plate both runners and push the score to 5-0. Logan Wilson walked before Posten's pop up to center field was dropped, allowing Neuman to score and Wilson to go to third. Austin Miner followed with an RBI single before a strike out ended the inning. The Lions were now ahead 7-0.
In the third the wheels fell off defensively for the Pirates. Crocker utilized four Macks Creek errors, four hits, and two walks to plate seven runs.
The Pirates did their damage in the fourth and fifth. Matt Hicks drew a walk and moved to second on a wild pitcher before scoring on a Cameron Charlton double to left. They would leave the bases loaded in the inning. In the fifth inning Tommie Willis walked and advanced when a ball was thrown past the catcher. He would come in to score on Austin Bryner's double to center, which fell just short of a diving fielder. He would advance to third on a Hicks' swinging bunt and score on a Charlton ground out to second.
"We are without three Senior starters who left for Senior trip today," commented Coach Trusty, "but that's no reason for us to not play defense. It's the little things that cost us today."
Tommie Willis suffered his first loss of the Spring. The Junior worked the first two-and-a-third innings, allowing 14 runs, only four earned, on 11 hits while striking out four and walking three. Jimmy Willis relieved and worked the final two-and-two-thirds of an inning, allowing a run on three hits while striking out two and walking one.
Blake Neuman picked up the win for the Lions on the hill. The right hander worked the complete game, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out nine and walking three. He threw 100 pitches.
Cameron Charlton collected two of the four Pirate hits in three trips to the plate. Both were doubles. He also finished with two RBI's. Chase Schmidt also singled and Austin Bryner smacked an RBI-double and scored once. Tommie Willis and Matt Hicks plated the other two Macks Creek runs. Hicks, Tommie, and Andrew Kohler had reached on walks. Jesse Linton reached on an error.
Page 2 of 2 - Blake Neuman and Logan Wilson each went three-for-three and Mason Boorom went three-for-four in the contest to pace the Lions offensively. Ty Helms, Garrett Posten, Austin Miner, Austin Wilson, and Austin Bogle each had hits in the contest as well. Helms scored four runs, Neuman and Wilson each had three, and Posten, Miner, and Bogle crossed the plate once. Boorom also scored two runs. Neuman had four RBI, Posten two and Wilson, Miner, and Brett Jones each had one.
Macks Creek falls to 9-6 while Crocker moves to 8-9.
Crocker coach Chris Long was ecstatic to tally another game in the win column.
“It was a big win against a district team that the Lions needed for sure,” he said.
The Lions next matchup will be on Tuesday at home against Richland with the game starting at 5:00 p.m. Blake Neuman will take the mound again as the Lions look to get back to .500.
