  • CAMDENTON — The Waynesville golf team was unable to qualify anyone for state sectional play, which will be on May 12, at Old Kinderhook in Class 4 District 5 play at Camdenton on Monday, ending the Tigers season.
Jacob Morriss was the low scorer for the Tigers with a 96, Wade Howser shot a 113, Dylan Reynolds 120, Fred Boone 154 and James Richardson had a 162.
Their coach, Rube Dowell, said his young golfers suffered break-downs in their swings and had many mental mistakes on a day where weather was perfect for scoring well.
“I hope the experience of playing in state competition and the results from today will fuel these young men to get out as much as they can over the coming months to work on and improve areas of their game that didn't go as planned today,” Dowell said.
Dowell also said he was proud of his team and the improvements they've made over the season.
“Most of the team has only been playing golf since March 3,” Dowell said. “Most have shown signs of great things for the future. I have grown as a coach as well. I see many areas of emphasis that I want to encourage my players to go out and work on.”
Rock Bridge won the tournament as a team with a score of 304, Camdenton was second as the Lakers carded a 325 and Rolla was third with a 328. Waynesville finished ninth with a score of 483.
In individual play, Rock Bridge's Matt Echelmeier and Camdenton's Michael Pfitzner tied for first with scores of +1 on the par 70.
