Senior Trent Simpson took a no-hitter into the seventh before giving up a single in the final frame
ST. JAMES — On Monday in St. James, Waynesville senior pitcher Trent Simpson took a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh in a 3-0 victory.
Simpson was sent out for the seventh, but after he walked the leadoff hitter and the second hitter got a single in between the second and first basemen coach Scott Turner called for sophomore Ryan Pendleton to come in to relieve.
Simpson ended up with six innings pitched, one hit, six walks and five strikeouts.
Pendleton then struck out the next three batters to close out the game.
As for the three points on the board, two of those came via sophomore Seth Hedrick who smacked a two-run homerun to give the Tigers the lead in the top of the fourth.
Then, Simpson helped his own cause with a double to score fellow senior Shane Jewett.
Waynesville's junior varsity also won on Monday, 5-4, after having to go two extra innings to get that winning run in the seventh.
Sophomore Derek Emperato drove in the go-ahead run with a double in the seventh that stood for the win.
