WAYNESVILLE — Waynesville senior Hannah Bland became the latest of the string of Tiger athletes to sign a letter of intent to play college ball when the Lady Tiger basketball player signed to play at Lindenwood University in St. Charles.

Bland wants to study physical therapy, but since Lindenwood doesn't have a degree in that, she will take the prerequisites.

The senior said she thinks she knew what made the Lions interested in her.

“I'm very versatile and I can play anywhere,” Bland said.

Her coach, Brittany Matlock, said that isn't the only thing that drew college attention to her.

“She was a good role model in the class and out of the class,” Matlock said. “There's a standard that has been set and we try to meet that or surpass it each year.”

Bland, Matlock said, has definitely set the bar high, but Bland acknowledged that her teammates made it easy on her. She'll never forget that camaraderie.

“I'm going to miss my teammates,” Bland said. “They're a great group of girls.”

Matlock knows her former Tiger will do just fine in St. Charles though. And she can't wait to see how Bland's game evolves.

“With any of your kids, it's fun to watch them in another program and another system and see how they respond to that,” Matlock said. “[As for Bland,] I think we've yet to see her at her best.”
