Wayne E. Feeler Sr., 66, of Rolla, was pronounced dead after the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s water division stated he entered a farm pond on private property adjacent to Maries County Road 518, off Highway A.
According to the patrol, Feeler went into the water to attempt to get the boat that had drifted out of reach around 4:30 p.m.
Feeler then disappeared beneath the surface of the water and could not be immediately located. Crews with the Vichy Volunteer Fire Protection Association located Feeler, according to the patrol.
Maries County Coroner Leo Kloeppel pronounced Feeler dead at 7:15 p.m. Saturday.
An obituary for Feeler (see page 3) stated that he was a U.S. Navy veteran, who served in combat in Vietnam.
His funeral arrangements are being handled by Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla.

The other four incidents are as follows:
    • Eighteen-year-old Joshua Washington, of Republic, was trying to help others at Table Rock Lake when he went underwater at 10:20 a.m. Friday and didn't come back up. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
    • At 4:25 p.m. Friday, 30-year-old Justin Byrd, of Englewood, Colorado, fell off a boat anchored in Anderson Hollow Cove at the Lake of the Ozarks. The water patrol says he was submerged for 5 minutes before others realized he was missing.
    • At 6:15 p.m. friday, 81-year-old Gary Gilbert, of Cape Girardeau, was wading across the Castor River in southeast Missouri when he lost his balance and fell. The patrol says his body was found later in a root wad.
    • Then Saturday at 6:28 p.m. 25-year-old Mary C. Talken, of Jefferson City, and 48-year-old Larry C. Hennier, of Rich Fountain, both died after two jet boats collided into each other nearly head-on in a narrow passage on the Gasconade River in Osage County. Four others were injured, according to the water patrol, with two of them reporting serious injuries.
