Driver accused of driving while intoxicated

A Crocker man accused of driving while intoxicated suffered serious injuries after crashing a truck into a tree early Sunday.

The accident occurred around 2:50 a.m. when Austin L. Cox, 20, failed to negotiate a curve in the road while driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado on Route U, about one mile west of Crocker, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

The Silverado then ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree, leaving Cox trapped in the vehicle.

Firefighters from Crocker and Tri-County fire protection districts worked for more than an hour to extract Cox from the vehicle.

Cox was then flown to University Hospital in Columbia by a lifeline helicopter.

A Missouri State Highway Patrol report states that Cox was charged with driving while intoxicated and careless and imprudent driving.

The Silverado was totaled.
