  • Local businesses and organizations teamed up with Agape Church of Love and Faith to host a three-day festival this weekend for local youth to learn team building skills and positive reinforcement.
Pastor Charles Howard said that he was overwhelmed by the turnout and support during this year's Community Wide Youth Festival. More than 200 youth attended the event.
“So many people from different organizations across the community helped us,” Howard said. “We have a really great community where a lot of people do a lot of good things for each other and this youth festival captured that.”
Howard said that Agape gave away more than $500 in gift cards during the festival, with the help of local businesses.
Throughout the weekend, Agape organized a series of activities for youth to encourage team-building skills and good sportsmanship. Volunteers continued to provide the teens with positive reinforcement for their participation in various activities including an Xbox competition, blow-up obstacle course race, and a roller skating game.
“You always hear teenagers saying that they are bored and have nothing to do,” Howard said. “Our goal for this event was to show teenagers they can have good, clean and positive fun without getting into trouble.”
Howard said a lot of teenagers don't get the type of positive reinforcement they need at home, so they turn to trouble. Howard's goal for this festival was to empower local youth to help the community.
“We believe that our church is here to help the community where God placed it,” Howard said. “We believe in creating an environment where youth are surrounded with unconditional love so they feel accepted.”
