  • The Waynesville R-VI School District anticipates bus delays during the first few days of school.
“Our drivers ran the routes on Friday; however, we know buses will experience delays during these first few days,” says Dr. Brian Henry, superintendent of the Waynesville R-VI School District. “We apologize in advance for any delays and ask for patience. It takes time to ensure that our students – especially the youngest ones – are on the correct buses. Our highest priority is getting every student home safely.”
Parents will be notified of the bus delays via the school’s phone and email systems. Parents who did not receive this information are asked to contact their child’s school to ensure they receive future information in a timely manner.
During these first few days, ample time should be allocated for picking up and dropping off students – especially at the younger grades where long lines are anticipated as parents pick up their children from school in the afternoon.  East Elementary has a new parent pickup route, which will take more time as parents adjust to the new procedures.
“We understand that parents are very anxious to see their children and to ask them about their first day, but it takes time to unite our students with their parents,” Henry says.
With nearly 6,000 students starting school on Thursday, Aug. 14, the public also is reminded to exercise caution as school children walk to school, are picked up and dropped off.
