A St. Robert man was recently sentenced to 17 years in prison after pleading guilty to child molestation and statutory sodomy charges.
Judge Gregory Warren sentenced Brian Hurd, 43, to 10 years for child molestation in the first degree and seven years for statutory sodomy. He will serve his time in the  Missouri Department of Corrections.
The charges stem from incidents that occurred in October, 2012 when Hurd allegedly forced a child who was less than 17 years old to watch pornography and sexually stimulate him, according to court documents. On the same date, he allegedly sexually assaulted the victim again. Hurd lived on Hickory Valley Drive in St. Robert.
Hurd had previously been convicted of the crime of indecent exposure in Virginia in 1997.
Hurd is required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Hillman said that the plea agreement in this case was done after consultation with the victim and the victim's family.
"[The plea agreement] kept us us from having to have the victim be re-traumatized by having to testify in court in front of the defendant," Hillman said. "In those type of cases, I am always trying to protect the victim as much as possible while still sufficiently punishing the offender to try and ensure it does not happen again."
