  • Soldier of the Month: Staff Sergeant Thomas F. White

  • Staff Sergeant White was born in Chester, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Peters Township High School, McMurray, PA in June 1985. Upon completion of high school, he opened Body Images, a personal training studio. He enlisted in the United States Army at 40 years old in March 2007 where he completed Bridge Crewmember One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in July 2007.
    Staff Sergeant White’s assignments include: Initial Entry Training with Fox Company, 35th Engineer Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; 814th Multi Role Bridge Company, 46st Engineer Battalion, Fort Polk, Louisiana; 66th Sapper Engineer Company, 1-14th Infantry Battalion, Scofield Barracks, Hawaii and he is currently assigned to the Department of Instruction, HHC, 1st Engineer Brigade, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He has deployed twice to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn and Operation Enduring Freedom.
    Staff Sergeant White’s military education includes: Warrior Leaders Course (Commandants List Awardee), Combat Lifesavers Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Army Basic Instructor Course, Small Group Instructor Course, Master Resiliency Training Course, Equal Opportunity Course , Environmental Officer Basic Course, Route Reconnaissance Leader Course and the Senior Leader Course.
    Staff Sergeant White’s awards and decorations include The Army Commendation Medal (4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Valorous Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (3 Service Stars), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Developmental Ribbon (3), Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award) and Expert Marksmanship Badge. He has distinguished himself by being selected as the Fort Leonard Wood Maneuver Support Center of Excellence Educator of the Year 2013.
    Staff Sergeant White has a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science and has been married for twenty six years to his wife. They have two children.
