  • Rolla police are investigating a bomb threat made to the CVS Pharmacy at Kingshighway and U.S. Highway 63 Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Rolla Police Department, the pharmacy was evacuated and no explosive device was found after a search by the pharmacy’s managers.
Police were called to the pharmacy located at 500 North Highway 63 around 2:30 p.m. for an initial report of harassing phone calls.
When officers arrived, one of the pharmacy employees was still on the line with a male caller.
Police say the caller “demanded the employee of the pharmacy send him a large sum of money via a pre-paid credit card device.”
Then during the course of the telephone conversation, “the caller threatened to blow up the pharmacy if the employee did not comply with his demands,” according to police.
As a result of the threats, the pharmacy was evacuated by officers on the scene and a perimeter was established. Rolla patrol cars blocked the entrances to the pharmacy parking lot.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the City of Rolla Fire and Rescue also were called to the scene.
The pharmacy was evacuated for about one hour before employees were allowed to go back to work.
The RPD’s criminal investigations unit is conducting an investigation into the incident.
