  • A Fort Leonard Wood staff sergeant who is accused of sexual assault is scheduled for court-martial Sept. 22 on post.
    Staff Sgt. Angel M. Sanchez, a soldier assigned to the 14th Military Police Brigade at Fort Leonard Wood, has been accused of sexually assaulting multiple female soldiers over the past few years.
    Charges were filed on Sanchez in May.
    During his pre-trial, military prosecutors said Sanchez's alleged crimes date back to his year in Afghanistan, which lasted from March 2011 until March 2012, according to the Associated Press.
    Sanchez served one tour each in Iraq and Afghanistan, earning a Bronze Star, before arriving at the Fort Leonard Wood in August 2013. He's been assigned an office job with his unit as his legal case unfolds, according to For Leonard Wood Public Affairs.He previously served as a drill sergeant.
    Sanchez is charged with six specifications of sexual assault and nine specifications of abusive sexual contact;
    one specification of assault; one specification of attempting to commit indecent viewing;one specification of attempting to commit abusive sexual contact;six specifications of failing to obey lawful regulations;
    and nine specifications of maltreatment.
    If convicted of all charges, Sanchez could face the maximum punishment of 275 years confinement, reduction to the grade of E-1, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and a dishonorable discharge.
