  •   Pulaski County University Extension and Master Gardeners offer Core Training this fall to new and experienced gardeners, beginning September 4, 2014.
Master Gardeners are university volunteers that extend Missouri garden knowledge to their local public.
Trainees may serve in any Missouri county after completing the classes in Pulaski County.  Master Gardeners may join a similar group in another state when relocating.  Volunteers enjoy meeting gardeners, teaching healthy vegetable growing and yard beautification, and offering garden exercise to the public.
After the Core Training, trainees must volunteer thirty hours of approved horticultural projects to become certified Master Gardeners.   Following that initial year, twenty hours of service is required annually by attending meetings or by teaching in a garden, at a display booth, or in front of a classroom.
The Core Training to become a Master Gardener is taught by University professors, University Extension specialists, and seasoned Master Gardeners from around the state. Classes are held Thursday evenings and one Saturday morning, at the Waynesville 6th Grade Center at 810 Roosevelt Street, just off of I-44 and behind the Waynesville Middle School.  There are also two Saturday field trips.
The Core Training fee is $145, for fifteen classes on horticulture topics, handouts, and other materials.  The Master Gardener Core Manual is available online at no charge, or as a hardcopy for an additional $30.  There is an option for the general public to audit individual classes of interest. The fee for auditing any class day is $15.00.
To register for the training or to audit classes, complete the registration form and send it to the Pulaski County Extension Center, located at 403 School St. Ste. 1, Waynesville, MO. 65583, two blocks behind the County Courthouse. Copies of the trainee and audit registration forms are available at the Extension Center and online at http://extension.missouri.edu/pulaski and at http://pulaskimomastergardeners.org/.  For more details, please phone University Extension at 573-774-6177.
