Summer is the time for backyard picnics and playground fun. This year, when the little ones need a break from water games and sports antics, and they come running for their fruit punch pouches, don’t slow them down with those cumbersome containers that spurt purple grape juice everywhere but their mouths. Instead, let them exert their independence, and grab-and-go, with a convenient koozie that’s easy to hold, keeps their drink cool, and is a lot of fun for them to make.
Supplies:
• Empty pint-size cardboard container
• Empty 1 gallon plastic container
• (1) 81/2 by 11 sheet of craft foam
• Stapler, glue, hole punch
• Boondoggle plastic lace, about 1 foot long
• Markers, glitter, stickers
1) Cut the top off of the pint-size carton. Place the carton atop the sheet of craft foam, and pull the sides up, tucking them inside the carton. Trim any excess, and staple into place.
2) Cut the plastic handle off of the 1-gallon plastic container. Trim the top and bottom of the handle to prevent any jagged edges.
3) Punch two holes on one side of the pint carton, in the upper center and the lower center, about an inch away from the edges.
4) Thread the boondoggle lace through the plastic milk jug handle, and then through the top and bottom holes on the pint carton. Grasp the lace inside the pint carton, pull tightly, and knot securely.
5) Decorate the craft foam on the outside of the pint carton. Now, children can slip an average-size juice box or pouch inside the top of the Juice Koozie, where their drinks can stay secure and cool in the summer sun.
Kids can spend rainy days making them for the whole family, and then spend sunny days toting them around the yard. They can even use them on car rides to prevent those messy juice pouch mishaps.
