State Rep. Don Wells, R-Cabool, filed legislation (HB1747) Wednesday that would authorize the use of currently illegal weaponry if used as memorabilia.
HB1747 also would decrease the conceal and carry permit fee and put in place a grandfather clause for any firearms safety training certificate issued prior to 2011.
Wells’ bill would allow weapons that are currently illegal in Missouri such as knuckles and switchblades to be kept by Missourians as curios, ornaments or keepsakes. Another provision included in the legislation would limit the cost a sheriff’s office can charge for a conceal and carry permit from $100 to $65, and would decreases the cost of a renewal from $50 to $32.
“These changes help protect our 2nd Amendment rights,” said Wells. “I believe law-abiding citizens should be able to protect themselves. The bill also will help preserve a bit of America’s weapon history.”
HB1747 currently awaits assignment to committee.
