The third annual Hiring Our Heroes’ Service Member Transition Summit, which includes a free hiring fair and other events, is scheduled for March 7 and 8 at various locations on the installation.
According to Alfredia Williams, Soldier for Life — Transition Assistance Program transition services specialist, the two-day summit, sponsored in conjunction with the Hiring our Heroes organization, is one of the largest hiring and education events conducted annually on the installation.
“The event is open to all service members, veterans and military spouses, and will feature informative interactive panel events, recruiter training, and facilitated discussions focused on improving competitive employment,” Williams said. In addition, it will also serve as a networking opportunity for job seekers.
Activities begin at 8 a.m., March 7 with an afterburner military transition seminar for advanced career professionals, followed at 1 p.m. with industry workshops, and a networking reception between employers and job seekers at 5:30 p.m. On March 8, events begin at 9 a.m. with workshops and are followed by a 1 p.m. hiring fair and career forum.
The Transition Summit is a part of the Soldier for Life — Transition Assistance Program, which provides information and training to ensure Soldiers are prepared to meet civilian career goals upon transitioning from active duty, Williams said.
Williams recommends every transitioning service member attend the summit to “become career- ready.”
“(The transition summit) connects employers of every size and industry with talented service members, veterans and military spouses,” she said.
The events are set to feature federal and state agencies, military leaders, innovators in the business and employer community and local community leaders.
“SFL — TAP assists Soldier’s transitioning and sets the Army’s mindset that all Soldiers will receive the benefits advice and transition resources they need,” Williams said.
“The summit is an amazing opportunity for military members and their Families,” Williams said.
“This event enables job seekers to participate in structured, blended forums that can lead them into skilled, good-paying jobs ... and (provides) the educational options available to leverage marketability.”
This is the third year for this program at Fort Leonard Wood.
“As a transition services specialist, I am excited to be a part of this, but more excited for the job seekers.” Williams said.
Job seekers may register at www.hiringourheroes.org and sign up for workshops, seminars and the hiring fair. Walk-ins are welcome, but space is not guaranteed.
