The Rolla baseball team (8-2, 2-2 OC) hosted Waynesville (2-7, 0-3 OC) for an Ozark Conference matchup on Tuesday, April 11. Waynesville was the first on the board, but Rolla was able to lock things down in the bottom of the first and never looked back in a 4-1 win over their conference foe.
Waynesville was the first team on the board with a run in the top of the first, but Rolla instantly responded in the bottom of the frame. Brett Gonzalez walked to lead off the inning and went on to steal second and third. A blooper to center by Zach Studdard tied the game, before Noah Doyle ripped a double into left that allowed Studdard to score from first.
Those two runs were all Jeremaih Ruth would need on the mound. The junior shut Waynesville down completely after allowing one unearned run in the first. Ruth allowed a total of four hits and walked one, while striking out five in a complete game.
The Rolla offense gave Ruth some room to breathe by sprinkling in a couple more runs in the fourth and sixth. Doyle reached on a bloop single in the fourth. After severely rounding first base, Waynesville elected to throw down to first, but the throw was wild and Doyle ended up on third. Trey Sinnott then drove him in on an error at short. Doyle then scored his second run of the game in the sixth on an RBI double by Zeke Arthur.
Ethan Brown started the game for Waynesville, allowing all four runs while pitching into the sixth inning. Only three of those runs were earned. He and the Waynesville pitching staff held Rolla to just five hits.
Waynesville will stay within the Ozark Conference for their next matchup with a trip to Lebanon on Wednesday, April 19.
