The Waynesville soccer team is ready to kick their way into 2017 fall season with head coach, Mike Armstrong.

This is Armstrong’s 12th season of coaching at Waynesville High School.  Last year the Tigers finished the 2016 season with a 6-16 record.

“Last season we struggled a little bit to score.  They were competitive in every game but found it hard to find the back of the net.  They were a good bunch, just struggled on the offensive end,” Armstrong said.

Last season they fell to Springfield Central who had a 17-5 record in the Class 4 District 9 quarter finals.

The Tigers are returning around 30 players from last year.

“If they put in the work, I can see them being very competitive.  It's that time of the year to see what kind of leaders are going to develop.“  Armstrong said.

Waynesville will kick off the year Against Ozark Conference foe, Springfield Hillcrest, at Anderson Field by East Elementary on August 22nd. “The Ozark Conference is a very strong conference.  Someone out of that group is always competing for a state title.  Unless you have a group of coaches that are really on your game they are going to make it really hard for you,” Anderson said.

Armstrong will be assisted by two assistant coaches who help form the foundation and prepare them for varsity play.

The Tigers will be holding weight lifting every morning at 6 a.m. as part of the Tiger Performance Training.  There will also be open field workouts Mondays and Wednesdays at 2:30 until 4:30 p.m.

“The kids play very hard and play the game the right way.  The boys are exciting to watch.  We are looking for that team chemistry and seeing what we they can do,” Armstrong said.
