The Dixon High School Boys and Girls Cross Country teams are ready to run their way into 2017 season with head coach, Jim Brown.
This is Brown’s 7th season of coaching cross country at Dixon High School. He is also assisted by 3rd year assistant coach Allen Hilliard.
Last year the Lady Bulldogs finished the 2016 season with a with a 4th place finish in the district meet and brought home their second straight Frisco League Conference Championship.
“The girls had on their best seasons in Dixon history. They won their second straight conference title and only lost in districts to three of the top ten cross country schools in Missouri,” Assistant Coach Allen Hilliard said.
Last season, they placed fourth in the District Championship meet only behind the Current state champion Fatma, Linn and Father Tolton Catholic of Columbia.
The Lady Bulldogs are returning six girls from last years conference championship team. Along with the returning girls, there are many new freshman through seniors joining the team.
“The Freshman will make almost an Immediate impact on the team as they replace some great seniors that graduated last year,” Hilliard said.
Two key leaders this year are seniors Maggy Lloyd and Lindy Sharp. Both girls are returning members of the 2016 Frisco League Champions and have been All Conference in both Track and Cross Country.
“With the start of cross country season brings hard work that will truly pay off. I am excited to work with my coaches and have a remarkable season,” Sharp said.
Both girls were selected in both Cross Country and Track as members of the Academic All State Team. They will be joined by two very good freshman and at least 3 other members from last year’s championship team.
Dixon will kick off the year off with the Vienna Invitational at the fairground in Vienna on September 6th.
“Our team is preparing this summer with the expectation of doing good this year. We have a strong team returning and hope to place well in Frisco League and Districts,” Head Coach Jim Brown said.
Last year the Bulldogs finished the season with a with a 9th place finish in the district meet and brought home second place at the Frisco League Conference Championship Meet.
“This is the perfect chance for the boys to bring home a championship at conference. They just have to use the summer to prepare for the season,” Hilliard said.
Last season they placed ninth in the District Championship meet and second in the Frisco League Championship Meet.
The Bulldogs are returning three boys from last years second place conference team. Along with the returning boys, there are two new freshmen moving up from the junior high level that will fill the in varsity role.
“The summer is when many of the champions are made. The runners are preparing this year to improve on what they had,” Hilliard said.
Two key leaders this year are, senior Dillon Williams and junior Chase Beardslee. Beardslee was selected as All Conference in both Track and Cross Country. Beardslee was selected Academic All State Athletes as well in cross country. They will be joined by two freshmen who were part of the second place Junior High Boys team from last years conference meet.
“I think the season is going to go well, with hard work and dedication I can make it a good season,” Senior Dillon Williams said.
The Bulldogs will have open runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
“We were second in the conference last year. When it comes to conference, we are ready to compete with the top school in the conference,” Brown said.
