Gastroschisis Awareness Day Cookout
The Gastroschisis Awareness Truck is hosting an awareness day cookout in Waynesville City Park on Saturday, July 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is meant to raise awarness about Gastroschisis and Averys Angels Gastroschisis Foundation. All funds raised will be for AAGF to fund research and send care packages to families. Gastroschisis is a birth defect that causes the intestines to protrude from a hole in the abdomen, typically to the right of the umbilical cord. Occasionally, other organs are involved as well. This must be repaired surgically after birth, although surgery is not always possible immediately and depends on many factors including the amount of bowel outside of the body. There will be hamburgers, hotdogs, brats, chips, and drinks for donations, as well as a few silent auction items, and a backdrop for photos.
