After responding to an active gunman at the Rolla Post Office, local police and state troopers were able to have hostages released.

The Rolla Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the Rolla Post Office at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 9. A gunman reportedly entered the building and took hostages. The police and troopers were able to have the hostages released. The area was sectioned off and residents were advised to avoid the area.

Rolla Chief of Police Sean Fagin reported that the situation was "fluid", and the gunman was threatening to take his own life.
