Raise awareness
Pulaski County Relay for Life has a unique event planned for Aug. 1 - 17 to raise awareness for the American Cancer Society.
The organization is inviting local businesses to participate in a Paint the Town Purple event. Local businesses are invited to decorate their windows with the Paint the Town Purple theme.
Goldie Spahn, Community Manager for Relay for Life with the American Cancer Society, told the Daily Guide that the organization was hoping that local businesses will “help promote Relay for Life.”
Businesses are encouraged to be creative. The windows can have a Relay theme, honor someone who has battled cancer, or even promote awareness about a specific type of cancer.
Spahn told the Daily Guide that the organization will take photos of the windows and post them on their Facebook page where the community will be invited to vote on the window they like the best.
There is no limit on creativity or materials and businesses are encouraged to “go all out.”
Participating businesses must display their windows from Aug. 1-17. Winners will be announced at the Relay for Life event on Saturday, Aug. 19.

Help those battling cancer
There are other ways businesses and individuals can participate, while helping individuals battling cancer.
Businesses can opt to sell luminari bags which will be displayed during a silent lap at the Relay for Life event to honor those that have lost their lives to cancer.
Businesses can also sell diecuts to be displayed in their businesses for a $1 to support the American Cancer Society.
Individuals and businesses can still sign up to participate in Relay for Life. The organization is still accepting teams and participants.
The goal for the organization this year is to raise $35,000.
Cancer survivors are encouraged to attend the event as well.
