St. Robert Police Department (SRPD) issued a press release Friday in regards to an accident that occurred on Y Highway Thursday evening that ultimately caused the death of William Harrison, 86, and the injury of Harrison's passenger, Kathryn Harman, 59, as well as the driver of the other vehicle, Kennedy Baker, 19.

According to the press release from SRPD, "Speed and driving too fast for conditions are probable contributing circumstances of this motor vehicle crash. It is a deadly reminder to slow down and obey the speed limit."

SRPD reported in its press release that the accident occurred when Baker lost control of her 2009 Chevy Impala while traveling north on Y Highway. Baker is reported as traveling off the right side of the roadway and overcorrecting.

"Baker overcorrected and when she returned to the roadway her vehicle began sliding on the wet pavement," SRPD reported.

Harrison was driving a 2008 Kia Amanti and traveling south on Y Highway when "Baker traveled into the south bound lane."

"Baker continued to travel forward as her vehicle was spinning on the pavement causing Baker's vehicle to impact with Harrison's just north of Leeds Dr.," SRPD said in its press release.

Harrison was taken to General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital Emergency Room "where he succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased," SRPD reported.

Baker was taken, via ambulance, to Phelps County Regional Medical Center (PCRMC) in Rolla with a "minor injury," SRPD said.

Harman was also taken to PCRMC, but was later transferred to Mercy Hospital with "significant injury," according to SRPD.

No charges have been filed as of press time Friday. The Daily Guide will continue to follow this story as it develops.
