Have you ever looked at Frog Hill and wondered if you could run it?
FROG Fitness Group, formerly known as Greater Missouri TEAM 413, and the city of Waynesville will be hosting the 4h Annual Frog Hill Half Marathon, 10K, and the Leapfrog 5K on October 6 and 7.
FROG Fitness Group "is a family of Christian athletes sharing the vision of making our community better through sports and community events."
Local runners still have time to train for the event and have the opportunity to do so with a certified running coach FROG Fitness Group is meeting at the Dixon City Park on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:15 where they are training for the event.
The group said, "We are happy to let you know that free training groups are being offered! So we hope that you will join us."
Attendees to the training groups don't have to be advanced runners, according to FROG Fitness Group. They promise they have programs designed to help participants of any ability level get ready for either the 5K or the 10K "by walking or using a run/walk method."
"And for more advanced athletes, we have running and walk/run programs for completing your first or your hundredth half marathon," FROG Fitness Group said.
The Leapfrog 5K will be held Friday, Oct. 6 and will begin at 6 p.m. in the Waynesville City Park. All the individuals who finish the Leapfrog will receive a t-shirt and a medal.
The Froghill Half Marathon will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7 and will begin at East Elementary School at 8:30 a.m. Runners will be able to run down Frog Hill, passed Croaker, through downtown Waynesville and the Square, onto Superior Rd. The run will include the view of the Roubidoux and scenic bluffs along the Roubidoux as the runners follow the road up into St. Robert passed the Hub Restaurant, down along the outer road along side Missouri Avenue by Culver's, and passed Tiger Typhoon, before getting back on Superior Rd. to finish the run in Waynesville Park.
"To reward their efforts of conquering "Superior Hill", all runners will receive a unique frog medal and the ultimate bragging rights -as well as yummy treats provided by the fine folks at Walker Real Estate," FROG Fitness Group said.
A shuttle will be provided to Frog Hill Half Marathon runners to return them to their vehicles at the end of the race and Walker Real Estate will be providing post-race food and drinks. Chip timing and age group awards will also be a feature for participants.
Packet pick-up will be on Friday, Oct. 6 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the Leapfrog 5K. Late race registration can also be performed at that time and location for an additional $10 fee. Pre-registration can be accomplished by visiting https://froghillhalf.com.
The Leapfrog 5K is $27.95, the 10K is $38.35, and the Frog Hill Half Marathon is $54.25. Twenty-five percent of all the proceeds from the race will be donated to Little Heroes Playground. Runners who complete both the Leapfrog 5K and either the Frog Hill Half Marathon or the 10K will receive a third medal for completing the Frog Hill Challenge.
