Relay for Life Pulaski County Missouri wants to remind everyone about their upcoming event in Richland. The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 19 from noon to 10 p.m.
Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society work hand-in-hand. According to their website, “Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 27 countries. Volunteers give of their time and effort because they believe it's time to take action against cancer.”
“Relay is a team fundraising event where team members take turns walking around a track or designated path. Each event is 6-24 hours in length and each team is asked to have a member on the track at all times to signify that cancer never sleeps. Cancer patients don't stop because they're tired, and for one night, neither do we,” according to the website.
“Each team sets up a themed campsite at the event,” according to the website, “and continues their fundraising efforts by collecting donations for food, goods, games, and activities. This money will count towards their overall team fundraising goal.”
According to Goldie Spahn, Community Manager, the Relay for Life organizer that also works for the American Cancer Society, “the Relay For Life is a community event to celebrate local cancer survivors and caregivers as well as remember those we've lost to this disease. The event is free admission and everyone is welcome. The American Cancer Society recognizes a survivor as anyone who has heard the words ‘You have cancer.’”
