This September, libraries across the country recognize Library Card Sign-Up Month. Often, I hear people say that they haven’t been to a library in years. They usually give a few reasons for not coming to the library that I’d like to address.

Reason 1: I only read e-books.

Solution: Did you know that the library offers e-books to checkout for free? Download the Libby app, search for the Pulaski County Library District, and use your library card number to log in. Find, download, and read books right in the app and they’ll return to the digital library when your checkout period is done. Simple!

Reason 2: That’s great, but I don’t have time to go to the library and get a library card.

Solution: Apply for a PCLD E-Card! Submit the application online and receive a digital library card number, good for any of our online resources.

Reason 3: I don’t read (usually accompanied by a reason).

Solutions: To refresh your reading life, try branching out into a different genre! We also offer audiobooks on CD and digital audiobooks (again, with the Libby app), to make your commute, workout, or cleaning the house more enjoyable. For research or education, your library card enables access to Universal Class, Pronunciator, and many other research sources.

But, if reading is just not your thing, we invite you to any of our free library programs. From Story Time to Zumba to job help, there’s something for everyone at your library!
