A K-12 Christian school in St. Robert thinks they can send meals--10,000 meals, that is--to needy children in Haiti.

Maranatha Baptist Academy--an institution with more than 200 students--is currently collecting funds to send overseas. This fundraiser started October 10 and continues until November 9.

The school will host an event they call Feed the Need on Thursday, November 9 from 9 a.m. to noon at Maranatha Baptist Academy. Feed the Need will mark the end of their fundraiser and will be a one-day-only Packing Party event. The students at Maranatha Baptist Academy will pack, seal, and box all the meals that will be shipped and distributed to children in need.

The event, food transportation, and distribution is being managed by The Champion Group of Birmingham, Alabama. They provide the management and coordination of getting the food from the school to the needy children overseas. They encourage those interested to search their organization and see their work at championevents.com.

The leaders at the school wanted to find an interesting and different fundraising event. According to Bryan Rush, the event’s spokesperson, “The leaders at Maranatha Baptist Academy wanted to do a unique fundraiser that people would love to support when they heard about it. They wanted people to know that they're helping locally and serving worldwide needs by donating; but the school didn't want to sell any candy or popcorn that people hate to buy. So they found an organization that specializes in Feed-The-Need fundraising which benefits the school as well as sends 10,000 meals to hungry children in third world countries.”

The money will benefit children overseas and the school both. According to Rush, “No matter how much money is raised, our school is going to purchase 10,000 meals to send to children in Haiti! Any money raised over the cost for the meals will be used diligently by the  school.  The school will be using the much needed extra funds to purchase new transportation vans for school events.  So when people choose to donate, they are truly making a real difference to students right here in the local area and kids across the world.”
