Fort Leonard Wood plans to usher in the holiday season with several events taking place during the month of December. Many events will be hosted through the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare & Recreation, along with support from several agencies on post.

Events include Trees for Troops, the Installation Tree Lighting, Santa Story Time, the St. Nick’s Benefit, Candy Cane Toss and the 399th Army Band “Holidays in Hollywood” concert series.


Trees for Troops

Trees for Troops will make a stop a Fort Leonard Wood with real Christmas trees for service members and military Families beginning at 2 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Auto Skills Center, located at Building 1383, Nebraska Avenue. Pickup dates for Active Duty, Reserve and National Guard members and spouses is from 2 to 7 p.m. Dec. 1, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 2 and Dec. 3. The date for all other authorized personnel to pick up a tree is 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 4, while trees last. For more information call, 573-596-0243.


Installation Tree Lighting

Fort Leonard Wood’s official kick-off to the holiday season begins with the lighting of the installation tree and a visit from Santa Dec. 5. This year’s venue takes place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence Loop, just outside of the MSCoE building. For more information call 573-596-6913.

399th Army Band holiday concert series

The 399th Army Band is preparing to host the Commanding General’s holiday concert series, “Holidays in Hollywood.” Dates for the family-friendly production include 1 p.m. Dec. 9 at Fort Leonard Wood’s Baker Theater; 6:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at Cowan Civic Center, Lebanon, Mo.; and 6:30 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Gillioz Theatre, Springfield, Mo.

Santa story time events

Santa and Mrs. Claus will make a stop at the Bruce C. Clarke Library to read a story to children from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 5, and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 6. Children will have an opportunity to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus following the story.

Santa’s Workshop will be open at the Bruce C. Clarke Library from 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 11. A movie will be shown at 3 p.m. and after the movie, Santa's elves will teach children a fun and unique way to wrap gifts. Children may bring small presents to wrap and take home. Wrapping supplies will be provided.

On Dec. 18, patrons are invited to the Bruce C. Clarke Library at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 18 for a reading of the classic book, “The Polar Express.” Snacks will be provided and a PG-rated movie will follow the story. All events are free and open to the public. For more information, call 573-563-5857.

St. Nick’s Benefit

The 37th Annual St. Nick's Benefit ceremony is planned for 10 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 12 at Grant Hall Auditorium, Building 2100 on Army Avenue, Fort Leonard Wood. The benefit brightens the holidays through gifts presented to local children in need and young adults with disabilities. Candy Cane Toss

The Fort Leonard Wood Directorate of Emergency Services will escort Santa on a fire truck through Fort Leonard Wood housing areas at 2 p.m. Dec. 20. Santa will toss candy canes to children of all ages.
