Students at Waynesville have been busy doing things to make a difference and help their community.
Social awareness and leadership are two values the Waynesville School District has been incorporating into it’s curriculum. Recently, two different grades, as part of two different programs engaged in activities meant to make a difference in their community.
The WMDS Uproar Leadership class collected change to change the lives of needy families in Pulaski County. Waynesville Middle School staff and students brought in change for two weeks raising $415.98 that will go to the food pantry to purchase food for distribution to families in need. The food pantry will be awarding Kerri Howlett’s class a pizza party for their top efforts of $73.27.
During their social awareness PBL, third graders in Brenda Fanning’s class at East Elementary found a way to help others. They collected items for the homeless and then assembled blessing bags.
“We made over 40 bags to give the shelter,” Fanning said. “The students were so proud and excited to be able to help others in need.”
