The Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) and some partners recently teamed up to treat some soldiers from Fort Leonard Wood to a trip to the Armed Forces Bowl in Texas.
ASYMCA, American Airlines, Lockheed Martin and AUSA came together to take 50 representatives, which included soldiers and their families, from Fort Leonard Wood to the game in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Armed Forces Bowl is an annual postseason college game that features a variety of teams from various conferences and the United States Military Academy, as well as the Navy's American Athletic Conference and the Air Force's Mountain West Conference. .
The group flew out on December 23 to watch this year's game between the Army and San Diego State. As an added bonus, the group got to see the Army's team, the Black Knights, beat SDSU 42-35 in a final few nail biting touchdowns.
According to reports of the game, the Black Knights scored a touchdown with less than a minute left on the clock.
The ASYMCA said the it was "a stunning last second touchdown" to take the victory and the trophy.
"The Armed Services YMCA would like to thank the Fort Leonard Wood Garrison Command in helping identify soldiers and family members to attend the game and represent Fort Leonard Wood," The ASYMCA said.
