The Waynesville Tigers had a busy weekend as the Boys and girls both played. The Lady Tigers came away with an overtime win and the Tigers won their first conference game of the year.

C5 8th Waynesville Lady Tigers @ Jefferson City Lady Jays - Friday

The Lady Tigers traveled to Jefferson City on Friday night at took on a tough Lady Jays team just days after learning they were ranked 8th in Class 5 in Missouri. The Lady Tigers came away with the win at Jefferson City High School in three overtimes.

The Lady Jays came out strong in the first quarter and took a 16-11 lead after one period.    The second quarter belonged to the Lady Tigers as they outscored Jefferson City 15-8 in a strong defensive game. The Waynesville shooter went into halftime with a 26-24 lead.

Both teams came out strong in the second quarter but Jefferson City was able to make a late quarter basket and out score Waynesville 15-13. Both the Lady Tigers and Lady Jays were tied at thirty nine points each after three quarters. Both teams payed close going into the final period ad scored thirteen points each. Both teams were tied at 52 after regulation.

After three exciting overtimes the Lady Tigers were able to outscore Jefferson City 30-24 in the three extra periods. Waynesville won 82-76 in a exciting game.

Head Waynesville Lady Tigers Basketball Coach Brittany Matlock said this after the game, “We went three overtimes before securing the win.  I am very proud of the girls for sticking together no matter what and never giving up. This was a great learning experience and we want to continue to grow as a team.”

The Waynesville Lady Tigers were led by Stone with thirty one points in the big win. Perry scored twenty points to also help secure the win. Shoulders scored a double double with ten points and elcen rebounds. Both Evans and Coleman score eight points for the Lady Tigers. Hadley scored three in the big win.

    The Jefferson City Lady Jays were led in scoring by Daly with twenty three point. Anderson added fifteen point in the close game. Harmann score ten for the Lady Jays. Both Nigels and Linthacum score nine points. Chambly added seven of her own points.

    The Lady Tigers will host the Hickman High School Kewpies out of Columbia on Thursday.

    Waynesville Tigers vs Hillcrest (Springfield) Hornets - Saturday

    The Varsity Tigers hosted the Hillcrest Hornets from Springfield on Saturday for their Courtwarming game. Both boys teams came away with win.

    The Junior Varsity game was not close from the beginning as the Tigers easily Handled the Hornets throughout the game.

    Waynesville Started off with a a 17-7 lead in the first quarter. Both team scored ten points in the second period. Waynesville led at halftime 27-17.

    The Waynesville boys were able to dominate in the third quarter and outscore Hillcrest 13-6 in the period. Waynesville led 40-23 after three periods. The Tigers won the final quarter 16-12 in the final period. Waynesville won the game 56-35 over a good JV Hillcrest team.

    The Tigers had a very strong varsity game and were able to win their first Ozark Conference game of the season. The Tigers improved their season record to 7-4 after the big win.

    The Tigers started out taking a 17-14 lead after the first quarter. Waynesville did not slow down in the second quarter either as they out scored Hillcrest again 14-9 in that period. Waynesville went into halftime leading the Hornets 31-23.

    Waynesville and Hillcrest both had good third quarters as the Tigers outscore Hillcrest 18-13 in the period. Waynesville had a 49-36 lead after three periods. The Tigers were able to outscore Hillcrest in the final period 17-9. Waynesville completed their first conference win 66-45 in front of a great home crowd.

    Head Waynesville Tiger Boys Basketball Coach said this after the big win, “It's always nice to start out conference play with a win.  We knew it wasn't going to be easy.  Hillcrest is a good team, well coached and they play hard.  We did a decent job closing out on their shooters and cutting their drives off.  On offense we hit enough outside shots to keep them honest and we were able to get in the paint and make plays.  Caleb Barnes stepped up for us in a big way, playing his best game of the season.  As always though it is a process.  We need to and are trying to improve in all aspects of the game.”

    The Waynesville Tigers were led in scoring by Caleb Barnes with seventeen points on the night. Carson Cavalier scored fifteen and Gunner Reese added fourteen of their own points on the night. Eric Morris added nine points in the game with his strong offence. Zeke Rogers scored five points while Courtwarming King Tanner Simpson contributed four.  Shen Butler-Lawson also added two point in the key win.

    Pryer led the Hillcrest Hornets with twelve points in the tough loss. Starks scored nine points. Washington scored five points in the matchup. Both Powell and Jarman scored five points for the Hornets. Weaver score four points and Haggard added three for Hillcrest. Schaffited added a free throw of his own.

    The Tigers will play the Jefferson City Jays at Waynesville High School Tuesday night.
