The Dixon Lady Bulldogs and Crocker Lady Lions have had some great battles over the years. This year has been no exception as the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Crocker High School a few weeks ago and had a tough loss to the Lady Lions in Frisco League play.
They played again Saturday in a game that was exciting for both teams again, and this time the Lady Bulldogs were able to pull off a close win to bring home some hardware.
The Bulldogs and the Lions had a great first half as the game started out with both teams playing great defense. That type of play lasted into the second quarter because both Crocker and Dixon kept the score low in the first half. Lauren Gilbert opened things up for the Lady Bulldogs as she hit three shots from behind the ark to help give the Dixon Lady Bulldogs a 29-22 lead in the tough matchup after the first half.
The third period was no different as the Lady Bulldogs were able to hit a few more shots and outscored the Lady Lions 13-9 in the period. Dixon took a 42-31 lead in the period. The Lady Lions heated up in the final quarter of play as they were able to hit three shot from deep and make several free throws to try to pull back into the game. Dixon was able to match up with several shot but more importantly, the Lady Bulldogs made seven of their twelve free throws in the period.
The Dixon Lady Bulldogs and Crocker Lady Lions both scored 16 points in the final period. The Lady Bulldogs won the great game 59-50 and brought home the third place plaque from the Osage Tournament.
Senior Tressa Hughes led the Dixon Lady Bulldogs with 17 points in the game including two key free throws in the final period of play. Senior Lauren Gilbert was able to add 15 points of her own and game Dixon the Early lead with three points from behind the ark in the first period. Freshman Brooke Sinclair was not far behind with a great defense in the matchup and she also hit several key buckets in the win.
Amy Wade scored eight points and Brittany Koch added four of her own to contribute for the Lady Bulldogs. Klohe Irvin added three points and Izzy Thiltgen made a free throw for Dixon in the big win.
The Crocker Lady Lions were led in the game in scoring by Morgan Wall and Macey Connel with nine points each. Megan Becker and Abigail Posten both added eight points each for the Lady Lions. Lindsey Parrish was a key contributor in the late game run as she score seven points in the loss. She score five of her points in the final quarter of play. Manan Dean scored six point and Kaitlyn Gambill exchanged scoring in this game for assists and rebound in an effort to help the team.
