The Crocker Lions faced the Dixon Bulldogs for the third time this season and once again both teams packed the gym for a classic Frisco League matchup.
The Game started off with the Lions taking an 8-7 lead over the Bulldogs. DIxon heated up their shooting in the second quarter as they were able to outscore the Lions 11-6. Dixon went into halftime with a 18-14 lead in the game.
The Dixon Bulldogs came out shooting light out in the third period as they outscored the Lions 23-10. Dixon extended their lead by almost twenty as they led 41-24 after three quarters of play. Both teams really slowed the pace down in the final quarter as the Lions outscored the Bulldogs 5-2 in the period. Dixon came out ahead on the scoreboard in the end 43-29 in the exciting game that led up to the homecoming activities and the varsity rematch.
Head Crocker Lions Junior Varsity Coach Dalton York said this after the Frisco League win, ”I thought our guys fought extremely hard, we did some really good things throughout the game and we are consistently getting better.”
This was the third time the two teams have played this season and both teams were tied. The Lions won the first matchup in the Frisco League Tournament semifinals game. The Bulldogs got some revenge in the third place game of the Iberia Tournament as the Bulldogs pulled out a close win thanks to their three point shooting.
The Lions came out and was able to edge out the Bulldogs in the first period of the game 17-16. Both Ethyn Boorom and Ethan Gann scored four points in the first period for the Lions. The Bulldogs were led in the period by Trey Holzer with his nine points in the period. Both teams remained close in the second quarter and the Lions were able to build a smaller cushion in the game as they won the period 17-15. Sabastian Salais and led the Bulldogs in the period with nine points while Adam Shockley led the Lions with six points. The Crocker Lions went into halftime with a 34-31 lead going into halftime.
E Boorom led the Lions with eight points in the first half while Holzer led the Bulldogs with fourteen points in the first half.
Both teams continued to shoot well in the third period but was able once again edge out Dixon in the third period 20-18. Both Holzer and Salais led the Bulldogs in scoring with eight points each in the period. Crocker was led in scoreing by E. Boorom with eight points of his own. The Lions increased their lead to 54-49 after three quarters in the game. The final period was not a slow down for the Lions or the Bulldogs as both of them scored their highest points of the period. The Lions outscored the Bulldogs 23-20 in the fourth period. E Boorom once again shined as he score twelve more points in the final period. Seth Parker helped to lead the dixon in the period with eight points including a three pointer and a free throw. The Crocker Lions won the homecoming game 77-69 in front of the standing room only crowd.
Head Crocker Lions Varsity Coach Philip Gambill said this after the Frisco League win, “It was kinda back and forth early and our guys did a great job. We played these guys a week ago and they shot the ball very well. We worked on closing out shooters and handling the basketball. I thought our guys did a good job of getting out early and closing out defenders. We were patient offensively and it helped us set the tone.” He also said, “We came out trying to play fast but not their fast if that makes sense. All and all I think our Kids did a good job.”
Head Dixon Bulldogs Varsity Coach Steve Schofield said this after the loss, “We didn't shoot the three pointer very well and was out rebounded. When you put those two things together we won't win very many games.”
The Crocker Lions were led in scoring by Senior Ethyn Boorom with twenty seven points in the conference win. Senior Adam Shockley scored scored twelve points for the Lions. Senior Logan wright added nine points. Senior Brian Boorom added seven points in the game. Senior Cameron Bryant scored six points and Senior Dillion Porter added five points in the win. Junior Ethan Gan and Senior Nathaniel Combs both added four points for Crocker.Senior Keagan Hatton added three points of his own.
The Dixon Bulldogs were led in scoring by Sophore Trey Holzer with twenty six points. Junior Sabastian Salais added twenty four points in the loss for Dixon. Junior Seth Parker scored eight points in the loss. Seniors Walker Shelton and Quest Winkle both scored four points in the conference loss. Senior Braden Mahurin scored a basket while Junior Tyrone Harris made a free throw in the close game.
